Service description

The department is mandated with the implementation of construction, maintenance and enforcement of the building development control act and regulations within the Mahalapye Sub district jurisdiction.

  1. Development Projects

In its endeavor to improve the convenience and ease of use of services through provision of council building facilities for improved quality of life within the Sub-district, all the development projects are strictly made to finish on time, within budget and specification.


  1. General Maintenance

Periodic maintenance of council facilities is done in accordance to the maintenance plan. However, emergency maintenance reports are attended to within 1day from the time of lodging such a report.


  1. Plan Perusal, Inspections and Permits

The building control committee meets on monthly bases with all application submitted perused and issuance of building permits done within 6weeks from the date of lodging in an application. Occupation permits are issued within 1day from the date of request and final inspection.



Inspection of buildings is done 1day from the date of request for inspection and the actual inspection.

Our offices are located at the Rural Admin Center-Mahalapye and specified services are rendered under the following sections:

  • the development section oversees the implementation of new construction projects

  • the maintenance section oversees the repair of all council facilities

  • the building control section oversees the enforcement and adherence to the building control act and regulations

Requirements for obtaining the services

For plan perusal applications, our clients are to fill in and submit 3 copies of the planning and building permission application forms, submit 4 sets of building plans/drawings, pay perusal fee commensurate with the proposal’s floor area, provide prove of landownership and provide professional indemnity and registration proof with registration bodies.


For inspections, clients are to book-in with our office a day in advance by telephone or in-person providing the nature of project, location and contacts.
