MAHALAPYE SUB DISTRICT

Social and Community Development commonly known as S&CD is made up of 3 divisions namely Social Welfare, Home Economics and Community Development. S&CD offices can be found in Mahalapye (Mowana Kgotla, Xhosa I Kgotla, Boseja Kgotla , Thomadithotse VDC office, Tidimalo Kgotla, Dilaene Kgotla, Herero Kgotla, Tshikinyega Kgotla); Mahalapye East (Pallaroad, Mookane, Kudumatse, Makwate, Taupye); Tswapong (Machaneng, Sefhare, Chadibe, Mokobeng, Tumasera/ Seleka, Ramokgonami, Pilikwe) and Mahalapye West (Mmutlane, Kalamare, Shoshong, Mosolotshane, Otse).

 

MANDATE

  • To enhance effective social functioning of the community by:

  • Providing psychosocial support to orphans, destitute persons and CHBC patients

  • Providing counseling to individuals, families and vulnerable groups.

  • Providing professional guidance on matters of community development

  • Empowering communities to become self-reliant.

  • Providing socio-economic empowerment and skills to disadvantaged individuals and groups.

A.SUPPORT OF ORPHANED CHILDREN

I.OPERATIONALIZED DEFINATIONS

-Orphan: Is a child below 18 years who has lost either parent (child of single parents

or both parents(child of married parents), either biological or adoptive.

-Social Orphan: a child below 18 years who is abandoned or dumped or whose parents cannot be traced.

II.SERVICE DESCRIPTION

-Psychosocial support and counseling such as grief counseling, trauma counseling, truancy.

-Educational needs: school uniform, tour fees, school fees exemption, transport fares

-Material needs: private clothing, toiletry, food and bedding.

iii. HOW DO I OBTAIN THE SERVICE

One has to be an orphaned child below 18 years.

Through self, community or institutional referrals

iv. HOW DO I ACCESS THE SERVICE

Visit the nearest S&CD offices.

Provide proof of death of the parent(s), child’s birth certificate and Identity card of the appointed care giver/ guardian and fill in a registration form.

B.SUPPORT FOR DESTITUTE PERSONS

I.OPERATIONALIZED DEFINATIONS

A destitute person is an individual who due to old age, disability or chronic health condition is unable to engage in sustainable economic activities and has insufficient assets or unreliable and limited sources of income.

ii. SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Provision of psychosocial support to destitute persons

Material Needs: food, private clothing, and bedding

Destitute persons cash allowance.

Shelter

Support to vulnerable children and needy students (educational needs, counseling)

 

iii. HOW DO I OBTAIN THE SERVICE

Self, community or institutional referrals

Assessment and means testing in line with the Destitute Policy criteria standards and Children in

need of Care guidelines
